How Big Is the GTA 6 Map?

GTA 6 returns to Vice City — but the city is only part of it. The game is set across the whole state of Leonida. Here is what is officially known about the map, and what is still fan estimation.

Confirmed by Rockstar: GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, a Florida-inspired state. Officially shown locations include Vice City, the Leonida Keys, the swampy Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga — cities, islands, swamps and highlands in one map.

So how big is the map, in numbers?

Rockstar has never published an official size. Fan projects that measure trailer footage frame by frame estimate the explorable area at roughly twice the size of GTA 5's map — some estimates go higher when water and the Keys are counted. Treat every exact “km²” figure as a fan estimate until the game is out and measured properly.

Is Vice City bigger than Los Santos?

From the trailers, Vice City itself looks denser rather than simply wider — more interiors, more neon beachfront, more life per street. The bigger jump is everything around it: GTA 5 had one city and countryside; Leonida adds island chains, swamps and several distinct towns.

Why does map size matter?

It is also why the game file is expected to be huge (see our GTA 6 size explainer), and why the world can hold more varied activities — boating between islands is a very different game from driving one city's streets.

Still rumor: Claims that the map “expands after launch” with new cities come from old leaks and wishful thinking. Rockstar has confirmed nothing about post-launch map expansions.
